I'm really new to "real" receivers. I'm used to home theatre in boxes, so this will probably sound silly to you guys. I just bought a HK 135. I have a DVD player connected to it by component cable. I connected both component cable and S-video as output to my monitor. When it try to connect other devices (PC,Playstation2) to the other video inputs using S-video ~ they all come out in black and white. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure all of your connections are tight. It sounds like you're only getting the luminence part of S-video, no chrominence (sorry if those are spelled wrong).

If checking the connections didn't help, as was suggested, try another s-video cable. The color lead may have a cold joint. The wires are very thin and the terminals on the plug is very small.

Thanks for the response.

I know its not the cables because if I connect it directly to the tv , it works fine. Also, I tried connecting it to video 3 ~ which is on the front of the receiver ~ it it also doesn't work. Is there an option in the AVR that you have to enable? I found that the manual on HK is not complete and organized, just like their remote control.

It sounds like the monitor-out on your reciever is messed up. I wonder if one of the contacts in the DIN connector on the receiver is dirty/damaged. See if you can find anything "out of place" on the monitor out jack.

i had the same problem happen. but it was the cable. one of the little prongs on the s video cable broke and all i got was black and grey from my dvd player to my t.v. so if the cable is fine i think your reciever is the problem.
