i think the sub was too close the TV.
how far away do the sub have to be away from the TV?

You've got to do a lot better in describing your setup, the connections, and what you've compared this to if you want any help.

Does this happen on all sources? If so, are they all connected to one receiver?

If both the above are true, have you tried a different input on the TV?

Or instead have you tried any of the culprit sources directly to the TV?

(I shouldn't have to be wasting my time asking you these questions, because I don't get paid for it!)

The first thing I'd hope to suspect is the STB.

If it's your TV, ruh roh. My friend's Samsung LCD TV just died this week, it was like $2k and it didn't even last 3 years. I convinced her to use her Costco Amex card for the replacement TV since that gives her up to three years in free warranty, even if I myself would have risked much less warranty for a flagship Pana plasma.

STB = cable/Sat box

Try going straight from the STB to the TV. It may just be a cable/connection issue, but you need to do some troubleshooting to see where the problem may lie.
