Help plz ! Can't decide on speakers

I'm buying a home theater system, so far this is what I'm getting :

Pioneer PRO-FHD1 50'' plasma
Denon AVR-2807 receiver
HSU VTR-2 MK3 Subwoofer

I'm having a really tough time on deciding what 7.1 system to go with! I'm looking to spend up to $2500 and have already done a lot of research. The companies I've narrowed it down to are the following :

RBH
NHT
Axiom
Klipsch

Can any experts tell me which company they would go with for bookshelf speakers ? My application will be 80%+ movies. Thanks for any help in advance.

I don't claim to be an expert, but I can tell you why I went with Klipsch RB-61's and an RC-52, after considering all the companies in your list.

All 4 companies make good speakers, but some wouldn't work for me because I needed to wall mount the mains, which eliminated rear ported speakers. Others were eliminated because of size constraints - I needed a fairly small center channel speaker. After trimming my list, I went & listened to all that I could.

You might have a very different set of needs than I do, so your list might be different, and one of the other brands might be better for you.

You don't like the Hsu HB-1's? They are not in your list, but would probably work well with the Hsu sub

Everything on his list has better offerings than the HB1.

Since the last two options where Canadian based speaker MFG, then why not ENERGY!! I've listened to offering from the last two with Energy RC's IMO coming out on top.

I really loved the Energy's... great speaker, but I needed something a bit larger for my huge room.. Those Veritas 2.4i sounded spectacular... also my dealer wouldn't budge on the price...

I agree... go with a bigger setup then the HB1... you'll be happier in the end.. Also nothing wrong with using your budget up on a 5.1 and then adding rears later... you'll end up with a better speaker setup, in the end I think you'd be much happier...

Honestly, I'm completely comfortable with trusting the expert staff from this site and my thorough research even if I won't be able to listen to the speakers ahead of time. If the companies that receive critical acclaim were being sold around my hometown I would gladly go listen but they are not. My other option is to settle for a big company that is not known for speakers like Sony, buy them in store, and listen to them ruin my hearing. Ew. I'm still fairly set on one of the following companies with one addition :

RBH
Klipsch
NHT
Axiom
Mordaunt-Short

Yes, and I already gave you my opinion in post #2 - they are all very good.

Your research was good, you've picked some good brands. If you can't/won't audition some of these speakers and/or narrow your list as I suggested above, then pick one of those brands at random & buy the best that you can afford.

About trusting the "experts" here - did you take a test to become a member?

Keith, if you’re planning to purchase via internet/direct/catalog, then companies like Klipsch, RBH, and many others only sell their better or whole product line through B/M retailers. And there are some (Boston, Energy, Polk, Infinity, etc) who sell through catalog/on-line retailers like Crutchield, Audio Advisor.

More info might help.

1. What configuration -- 5,6, or 7.1?
2. Front right/left speakers – Floorstanding or bookshelf
3. What are your point of purchase options? On-line, consumer retail, specialty retail etc.
4. Type of surrounds (mono, multi-polar)?
5. Size and type of room environment?

Have you considered the Rocket line by Onix? Those speakers give you alot of bang for the buck and look beautiful. If price is an issue, you can get a lot of speaker for the money, especially if you buy them as a set. Of course, they can only be purchased online so they would be harder to demo.
