Hi all,

can anybody give me an advice about these receivers?

I got a deal for a new NAD t763 for 780$ and a new Cambridge Audio 640R for 980$.

I was thinking of buying Denon 2309 in the first place for 980$.

Is it worth in sound quality to buy these older receivers or a new modern Denon 2309?

I'm going to audition all of them tomorow but untill then - any suggestions?

Thanks!

Denon AVR-2309ci.

Hi,

Go with the Denon AVR-2309ci, as was this your original choice.

Because the two other ones are old and without HDMI jack connectors, and Audyssey MultEQ XT. Plus the Denon is a full feature receiver with tons of tricks plus a nice OSD.

You'll be more into the future with the Denon, and it's worth the $200 difference in this case. And try to offer $900 for it (perhaps even less), because of the newer model that replaces it, the AVR-2310ci.

Thanks a lot Lordoftherings!!

That's what I was thinking in the first place!

I can get also Denon 2808 for 1250$ and am thinking of getting that.

Is 2808 better then 2309 and worth extra money even if it doesn't have dynamic eq?

Thanks a lot for your answer because I'm all torn up over here :)

Get the 2309, it's a better value for you.

Well, it all depends, they are pretty much the same receiver.
Some people like Audyssey Dynamic EQ, and others don't care for it.
Plus the 2808 has preouts for all it's channels, which the 2309 does not.
So, if you want to add external amps later, with the 2808, you can.

So, if the 2309 is a good fair chunk of money less than the 2808, well, go for it then. Because it seems so. Not only the 2309 is cheaper, but it is more recent with extra features. And the power difference between these two, is minimal at best. And me, I don't need preouts, I never used them anyway.

One is not better than the other one. Me I'll pick the one that cost less, unless there is a small difference in price, then I'll pick the 2808.

I don't see the big jump in price worth it for the 2808.
So, get the 2309, and try to get it for lower than $980, just like I said in my previous post. Offer the guy $900 or so. And check other dealers in your area for a better deal.
It's all up to you now, with the features that you can use best, and the best value, money wise. For me, it's the Denon AVR-2309ci, in your particular area.

Happy shopping, :)

I'm thinking the same way - think I'm gonna wait a while for prices to go down because of new models..

Thanks again for your answer!

Unless you absolutely have to get a new AVR, wait for the next gen HDMI version coming out in the foreseeable future. That said, no company has announced any yet, so this might be another 6 months.

I think it's the best thing to do cause I'm all set with equipment, but it's hard to just sit and wait :)

Take time on your side, then pull the trigger.

Maximum 1500$ (would like to spend less), but that's relative considering high prices in my country...
So the Denon AVR-2309ci in Croatia at $980 right now is below your budget.
And when the 2310ci became available in your country, the 2309ci should drop in price, perhaps to about $800 or so. Then that should be the right time to pull the trigger. :)

Heck, you might have a good deal on the AVR-2809ci by then. :D
Maybe around the $1,000 price range. Then I'll go with the 2809ci.
Even if it's around $1,100, it might be worth considering (if you intend to add external amp(s) in the future). Because the 2309ci does not have preouts.
But if you don't need them (preouts), go for the 2309ci and use the extra $300 or so on speakers or a better subwoofer or two. :D

Anyway, from reading your posts, it looks like you're aiming that way.

Keep in touch and enjoy life,

Bob

If you're after quality sound, the NAD or the CA would be my picks. Otherwise the Denon will do just fine.

Please do not go with the hearsays. You don't have to get those British made (NAD, Cambridge Audio etc.) No doubt they are good, but Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo, Integra, Rotel, Pioneer all can get you equal or better sound quality as long as you go for their higher end models.

I'll definitely audition any equipment I get a deal on.
