I am looking at upgrading my current receiver (Yamaha Z1) for either the Denon 3808ci or Integra 6.8. I can get either one for the same price through my dealers, but don't know what to do. I am only getting ride of my current receiver to accommodate HD-Audio and HDMI upconversion. Any suggestions/ideas would greatly be appreciated.

thanks,
Nyle

Something dissapointing about Yamaha's performance to you? Why not stick with them?

The Integra has more power, but will likely run hotter. I would suggest putting fans on it and giving it plenty room to breath. The Onkyo counter parts to the Integra line are much cheaper and are quite similar in features and power.

I really like my Yamaha receiver, but I have always been a die-hard Denon fan. Got my Z1 for $1000 when ultimate went out of business so I couldn't go wrong with that.

IMO, Denon has gone down hill. I am sure someone else will come along and let you know how wrong I am, but I just don't feel they are up to snuff with Yamaha in the same price ranges.

Don't be so sure!:D I don't think there is right or wrong in this but I wonder why you felt this away about Denon. I have done a fair bit of reading on receivers recently on the web and in book stores; and I am now seriously considering the 4308, after comparing it to the Onkyo, Marantz, Integra and Yamaha models.

The Denon models (anything from and below the 4308) do not have the Silicon Optix Realta hence no HQV, but that doesn't bother me because for what I need the receiver to do, HQV or not won't matter. It seems to me Denon's current models do receive plenty of good reviews world wide. Again, there is no right or wrong when it comes to feelings and/or opinions.

I believe that Denon has a cult following, reviewers don't want to dissapoint.;) Denon seems to lack features and power for the buck. This is my opinion as I also believe that receivers don't sound hugely different if at all. Lastly, the build quality has decreased it seems, they are using thinner case covers and I don't get the bold build quality feel from these newer Denons.
