Lets check this quote again. It states the 773 is way more than those speakers would need. And it states that a $200 Sony would drive this system. Drive it with utter disappointment.
There is no way that any receiver is more than they would need. They would love nothing more than to have a 300 X 2 strapped to 'em. That would be just about right. PENG, I am shocked. You are one of the sharpest people here. What gives?
If you put it that way, I am in agreement. I should have said the NADT773 is a good enough match for his Paradigm Monitor 11's, and of course those big Monitor 11's can benefit from higher end receivers or separates but that goes without saying.
I have listened to all sorts of Paradigm speakers and only the Signature Series impressed me in terms of resolution and being musical. The Studios are fine too but anything below the Studios are just decent sounding speakers.
The NADT773 and the Arcam AVR300 are both priced at around C$2,000, the NAD packs 7X110W (even into 4 ohms, all channels driven at the same time (whether you need it or not), and weighs 52 lbs. That's not too shabby for the C$1,500, and 91dB (anechoic sensitivity) monitor 11. We should not judge everything based on their weights or prices, but they are just some general indicators. The main point is, the T773 is NAD's current flag ship receiver, and has a good reputation for being powerful and musical. Anyway, I think Cabal made a good choice, the AVR300 should serve his speakers very well.
