Hi all, first post. my HK 630 has died :( and i need something to replace it. im looking to spend between 3 to 500, it can be new, used refurbished... as long as it runs:D. my big question is this.. im more interested in sound quality than anytyhing else. feature wise, my only needs are 3 hdmi in's (no upscaling is necessary, everything is already 1080p from the source) 7.1 or 5.1 with preouts. Should i be looking at older, more hi end gear or newer, lower end gear? and will all these auto set up features really make that big of a difference in sound, rather than breaking out the RS sound meter and doing it myself? Thanks!

If you main goal is sound quality, the NAD T747 is a good choice; Crutchfield has it for $599 (which is a bit over your budget). But it meets all the other specs you have; the sound is good.

The auto setups are nice to get you started in the right direction but most here still bust out the good ol RS Meter & dial in the trim just right. Make sure you get one with preouts & you'll be good to go!
NAD, Yammie, Pio, Denon, Marantz....they will all treat you with respect!

Here is a Denon 3310 for $443 shipped. It is in Like-New Open Box condition, so you should get the full 1 yr manufacturer warranty.

As far as room EQ goes, some people believe they hear an improvement in sound quality, while others (like me) have never experienced an improvement in sound quality when using room EQ or any kind of EQ & DSP modes.
Pioneer VSX-1120 is equivalent to Denon 3310 I guess, it shoudl cost same around $450. But I am not sure why Pioneer VSX 1120 is out of stock in most of the sites and stores. is it discontinued????

It's probably discontinued because it's an old model - the Pioneer website has 21 series out there now. Doesn't look like there's a replacement for either - no 1121. I'd be curious if one of the lower level Pioneer Elite models fills that spot now.
