HELP No Bass

Hello all.

Im looking to get some advice and some help. I recently got a Yamaha-5860. I find the unit to work really well except for one thing. The bass issue. I am currently running a pair of Bose 4.2 and Polk Audio RTi12 as front A/B speakers. Both speakers have excellent lows.

However the Yamaha has a front speaker crossover of 40Hz minimum, so no lows get to the Speakers.. or barely. I connected a spare subwoofer and the bass was back. I do however want to go Subwooferless. The specs on the Polks say they can go down to as low as 18Hz... and some subs that I looked at only go down to about 30Hz.

It would be a shame to not use the full potential of these speakers. Anyone know how to bypass or turn off this crossover?? I cant figure it out

In the speaker setup (not sure where that's at on your unit), you should be able to set your speakers as "Small" or "Large". Set them to "large".

Yeah I've got them set up as large already.
I've also selected that the low end frequencys be sent to only the front speakers.
Up'ed the Bass on the EQ and still nothing.. cant figure it out.. weird

Hmmm, that is odd. It can't help that you're driving those power hog Polk speakers with that receiver. It's not bad, but it's not designed for those current guzzlers. Have you checked the settings on your player too? My player has speaker settings as well.

yeah.. all the settings point to the fronts getting bass. But so far nothing.
At first I thought I might be the terminals that i chose to connect to, but the jumper is in place so both the highs and lows will get the same signal, regardless of where i connect.
levels are up... tried different cd's, speaker outputs(A&B)... cant get that boom that i know these speakers can do.

Even with them set to large, they may still be getting cut off. Go into the speaker setup for the sub and select 'NONE', '0', or whatever to tell it you don't have one. That should take the xover out of the loop.

yeah thats what I was going to recommend......make sure under 'sub' on your receiver you select 'none'. So as I understand it all freq. will travel to your frontsif they're set to 'large'.
