So, from your car analogy you are implying that since your car is different from another car, then audio components must also be different in sound and that you can tell them apart from years of listening to it? Please think it over carefully.

Maybe your senses are not as sharp as you think? Why is that not just as valid an assumption? You are assuming that it is sharpen than most? How did you test this assumption?
Maybe I can fly too? Read minds? Psychic?

No, your car analogy, while everyone tries to equate it to audio, is silly, not applicable, not even close. Your memory, or anyone's for that matter, is very poor when it comes to sound analysis that you are implying you can do. Not possible, no such evidence exists.
Since you don't have any idea how acute my senses are maybe you should think over what you say more carefully. My analogies come from a broad range of technical experience and not from what I've read. Since you seem to know everything why don't you list your education and technical background.

How is my background is relevant to anything? It is not.
You may bring up a car analogy, it is very poor analogy as there is nothing in common that can be compared or that would apply in audio similarly as between cars. With all that experience you have, it is hurting your arguments. Pick a better analogy nex time.

Oh, your senses are like the vast majority of the people. Why would it not be. Not many on the edges, especially with very keen senses. So, the probability is on my side.

I fail to see how one's educational background is relevant in this matter. Other than to offer insult. One's claimed ability to hear something vs. the ability to set up a true scientific blinded test to see if one hears what he/she thinks she hears is another story. Those with very high educational credentials very often seem to succumb to the snake oil of the audio realm...

I expected that. I rest my case.

Rest your case? LOL. You had no case to rest, obviously. But, bring on the evidence and we'll discuss it. That is if you have anything to bring.

From what I've noticed during recent extensive research and demo'ing, some components and speakers just don't match well. IMHO, Paradigm is sonically a little on the laid back side, and I think Elite is also. The muddiness you describe may be a result of matching "laid back" components with "laid back" speakers. I have heard Paradigm with NAD and Yamaha, and the combos have been awesome.

I recently purchased an Elite 53TX on closeout, and I am matching it with Monitor Audio S6's, which IMHO, are a bit on the "forward" side. I can say that so far, the combo is superb.

(I tried really hard on this thread to avoid using the terms "bright" and "mellow". :) )

Hello Rob. Thanks for the input.

In the end, I sent the VSX-56TXI back to the vendor. No matter how hard I tried, I just did not like its sound with my system.

Wesley,

Are you going to try anything else ? Or are you sticking with the Sony ?

I agree with Rob. NAD and Yamaha work well with Paradigm products along with Marantz.

Glenn;

For the time being, the Sony is back in the rack.

I'm going to do some more research, and read posts from other folks who have Paradigm speakers.

But whatever I buy, it will be from a firm with a no-hassle, 100% refund policy. After this experience, I'd rather spend a little more and know that I'll get my money back if I'm not satisfied.

Wesley-

I don't know where you live, but Tweeter has a pretty good return policy. I'm pretty sure they will offer a full refund within 30 days no questions asked. I would try the Yamaha RX-V2500 with your Paradigm speakers.

Rotel or NAD would also be worth a try, but you'll prob have to seek these out at a local B & M store, so yes, beware the return policy.

Interesting thread. I use Eagle's "Hell freezes over" CD as my reference CD as well (I'm a poor college student).

Instead of track 4, I use track 6. The opening sequence on track 6 has some of the best drum beats and acoustic guitar strings I have ever heard, and I use the clarity, depth, of those drum beats guitar strings to test my amps.

Pioneer uses MOSFT amps, which has a warmer and smoother sound compared to the Sony amp. That might be the reason why you found better clarity in the Sony.

What other speakers would be a good match for a Pioneer?
Specifically 1014TX, which is very similar (almost identical) to the 52TX.

Thanks.
