Help! Need advice on a "adequate" Speaker choice for large HT Room....

I have heard good things about AV123's in the past, but this was a year ago and now my house is about past the "framing" stage and I will need to start looking at prewiring. My question is...I have a 35 X15 ft HT room that I will use for Movies, TV and X Box.

I need a speaker system that will be able to fill that size room for the best price.

I will have front, center, surround, and rear speakers and 1 or 2 subs.

Please advise me on an "adequate" system that will fill my needs.

I am looking at getting the Onkyo 805 receiver as well.

Thanks!!

I have never heard them, but at that price, I just don't believe there is going to be anything that can touch that. What a price.
There really is nothing that I can think of that can come close to the performance, and sound quality of that Rocket system.

I doubt that. But for the money, I bet there isn't a system that can come close.

+1 The 850 Sig's are extremely efficient and can be pushed to great volumes without distortion or compression. They should fill that large room nicely. Oh, and they really do look as nice as in those pics mazer posted (I should know, I own a pair :)).

Klipsch would also be a great choice due to their high efficiencies.

I would hope the Rockets sound better than Klipsch. Otherwise, I don't recommend them.:D
Thats just ridiculous Zumbo... Its obvious that you dont personally care for the Klipsch stuff but that doesnt mean its a bad product and for his size room a pretty good option. "Better" would be completely subjective and a horrible way to ever describe the difference in two acclaimed speaker lines.. my $.02

Most any mid to high-end speaker brand will work fine in the OP's room.

Any Klipsh 5.1 system comparably priced to the for-mentioned Rocket system would be a joke. That is not subjective, it's a fact.;)

Instead of arguing, post your recommended Klipsh system.

I wouldn't say they sound better. I would say they sound 180 degrees from one another. Totally different. So it would be up to the individual if they sound better. My individual opinion is that the Rockets do sound better then the Klipsch.

To be fair, i like the Rockets and that price is insane. I dont think anything would touch the value of that setup. FWIW however, i would much prefer my Klipsch setup over the Rockets..at any price. much like I'm sure you would rather have some quarts. I just thought your comparison was a little short-sided and way too biased to be taken seriously.

Well, a budget has not been given by the OP. I think he is asleep at the wheel.
Quart is in a whole other league. Most people here frown at the price. Most people here frowned at the price of my new BD player. While I do like a bargain, my lust for quality audio is expensive.

Its interesting you own both a Klipsch and a Rocket setup. I find each of these brands to be extreme polar opposites of eachother. What else where you auditioning when you decided to buy the Rockets, what brand did you buy first? I am just curious thats all.

I dont own the rockets... Good buddy of mine about two hours away does... Him and I go back and forth on the two actually. I actually prefer the Rockets for *most* music. Especially if i'm gonna just sit there and pay attention to it. When i'm working out or doing something else I like the Klipsch. I much much much much prefer the klipsch in an HT environment. So does he. I would be curious how many people here that dont like the klipsch stuff have heard either the RF7 or RB75 that use the 1.75 inch driver in the horn. Its unreal. Music reproduction creates all kinds of tastes and i've had many reputable people tell me that they would never put them in their home. Thats fine, I at times desire something different for music. I have yet to have anybody tell me that they didnt love the setup for movies and couldnt believe how revealing and dynamic they were. Paradigm, B&W, martin logan, Theil, Polk and even AV123 owners have all made mention to the RF7 HT reproduction and how they were pleasantly surprised. Since the OP is looking for an HT setup, its hard to imagine being dissapointed with Klipsch.. just avoid their subs like the plague..

I have spent a good amount of time in front of the RF7's. But I've never been able to audition them or listen to them for very long. I was unable to sit through the attack scene while watching Pearl Harbor.

Funny you mention RF7, because those are the Klipsch I disliked the most. I auditioned them in a dedicated HT room in a respected audio-only store powered by Denon. Truly a disappointing experience. It was then that I set-out to audition speakers I had never heard of(at the time). I found a dealer with B&W, and Monitor Audio. I listened to B&W 700 and 800 series, and MA Golds. Now, those were good sounding speakers. I don't mean to bash your preference, but RF7's are flat-out not good sounding speakers. (TO ME)

You guys are both well respected members of this forum and know your stuff. I find your comments very interesting. In all fairness, the 7's i have do have some pretty significant crossover adjustments. In a small room with any volume at all the stock speaker can be pretty harsh... I'll give ya that... The upgraded xover in mine backs it off just a bit without eliminating the revealing characteristics. From what i understand, it utilizes the 10" driver more for the midrange giving it a much more reserved, smoother response. What makes this so interesting to me is that the reason i auditioned Klipsch in the first place was because i had used MB products in my cars for years and prefered the "brighter" sound. I fell in love with horns right away. Weird. To rephrase your last statement, "I'm bashing your preference, but RF7's are flat out not good sounding speakers to me."

It surprises me that there is actually a pretty large "cult-like" following of Klipsch owners and lots of happy listerners but yet they are still widely disliked by many. Not many products in any industry are so segregated.. fascinating...

I appreciate your guys' comments.

EDIT.. looks like Mazer beat me to the rephrase...
