Yep. Not sure about Denon, but I know select Marantz models are still built in Japan, but pretty much all the receivers are China.

Not sure about bass management capabilities, but the Denton avr-1912 has AirPlay,sub pre-out and toslink input and is iOS friendly, and i saw it online for about 400 bucks!

Not all Denon's are made in China. My 4311 is stamped made in Japan and per customer service, it's all made in Japan.

What you want is a a full receiver. No stereo receiver I know does proper bass management anyways

This one is a solid unit, almost within your budget and does everything you need. You need to realize that cutting features out, will only increase the price and complexity and not other way around. Yamaha's analog pre-pro sections in their receivers measures on the bench better than many dedicated pre-pro anyways.

Haven't any experience with NewEgg's Yamaha Refurbs so don't know the risk there. I really like my a800, except the HD tuner, but the OP doesn't care about that. No airplay though. Mine said made in Malaysia if that matters. While they are rated at 90 & 95 wpc I don't think you can realistically tell the difference between those and 100 wpc.
