no objections but be careful.

Hot every speaker, even highly renowned speakers, pleases everyone. Make sure you can return 'em if you don't like 'em, particularly since your decision seem to be based on looks, specs and other people's opinions, not on hearing 'em yourself.

I think you should listen to some stuff at some electronics shops and gather some knowledge of the type of sound you like. High quality speakers will sound VERY different from each other, but also from those hand me down disposables you have been talking about. It will probably take a while for your ears to adjust to what a better set of speakers will sound like, at first it may be wierd to your ears, and the set you get from the internet, sound unheard may be unfairly judged when you don't know what to expect.

If you go to audition a few sets of speakers ask to hear speakers that are in your budget to get an idea of what to expect for your money. If you have access to a cd burner (most of us do nowadays) go burn a disc with a bunch of your favorite music on it so you are intimately familiar with what you are hearing, I bet it will sound like brand new music you have never heard on a good set of speakers (unless it's rap, but even then it will still sound better).

The telltale sign that you have found the right speakers is when you are listening to a song that you are used to, but it sounds so good that you get chills of excitement, because you just heard an extra voice or instrument, or even a whole other part of the song you never knew was there. My system is not that special at all, it probably didn't cost me even as much as you are budgeting for speakers, but even with my modest setup I have expierienced this many times over, I tell you it is an addicting feeling.

Then again, maybe I'm all just too passionate about good sound...

Great suggestions from Mike. I will just add one of my own. If I find myself listening to the music and forget I am auditioning speakers, then that speaker will be one of the finalists in my speaker search.

I will chime in again about the XL-S. The last time I got that chill factor was when listening to Lowrider in my friends oldsmobile, I heard a couple bass notes I had never heard before and it was an ear to ear grin let me tell you.

In come the XL-S. First song: Wish you were Here. First thing I noticed was there was a lot of noise and junk at the beginning...a lot more than I thought. Then the clean acoustic...chills, then the voice...chills (I am thinking now this is way too loud and when the music comes in its going to fall on its face) BAM! It seriously brought a tear to my eye.

We sat and listened for something like 4 hours that night, discovering voices, instruments, notes that had disappeared before.

Buying unheard/unseen is not always a bad thing...sometimes its sweet.

Ok, I've pretty much givin up on finding speakers, I just suck at it. So I'm lloking for help from you guys.

I would like two floor speakers and 4 bookshelf speakers.

I would like to keep the floor speakers wattage under 200w each.

And I would like the bookshelf's to be 100w or less each.

I'm on a budget as well, hopefully someone can help me.

I should probly specify my recievers. I have a pioneer vsx- 815, and some old JVC 340w, 170w per channel. they are both 8 ohm impedence.
I don't know how they compare to the Mordants but I'm more than very pleased with them. If you can, try and audition a pair for yourself.

OK, wtf, these look great, of course, looks dont mean anythingwhen it comes to this, but why so cheap?

http://www.gr8consumerelectronics.com/0/3120922.html

nvrmnd some reviews explained to me why.

I know what song I'm going to use for auditiong, my favorite song ever. Sonic Inc - I Feel For You, its a progressive trance song, and god, its just perfect.

Here's a listen if you want, I suggest listening all the way through, as it breaks down into the most beautiful breakdown ever.

They're 9" deep, they use $5 drivers, and they need to be plugged into a wall socket to get sound (spl = 80dB). If you're looking to go cheap, check out the Bic Venturi DV64's.
