Ok, my ol' hi-fi system is being a PITA. The problem: Somewhere along the signal chain, the high frequencies are being cut out so the whole system sounds like it has a blanket over it.

The Components in question are:
Magnepan MGIICs (most likely)
Superphon Revalation Basic Preamp (next in line)
BK Components ST-202 Plus Amplifier (least likely)

I suspect that the maggies have lost their high end. I really want to test this though. What are the best ways to find out which component is malfunctioning?

Any ideas and suggestions are welcome!

its the maggies

Try swapping out the speakers first. The planar ribbon might have given out.

Maybe you have re-eq or cinema eq engage. In which case it will tone down the high frequencies.

Check the fuses on your maggies. They are for the tweeters only.

Yeah, I replaced the fuses (one was blown). I've noticed a very small change in the sound (if anything). I think the age on the old maggies is just catching up with them. :(

If you want to keep your maggy's you can get the diaphragms repaired/replaced by Magnepan. They also sell repair kits for the DIY crowd.
