You can look around here at speaker and sub kits from Parts Express, and there are other forums about the net that have a lot of information on building and proven designs.

Oh, where are you from? Like, are you close to any major cities? I ask because some areas can be a gold mine for used speakers. I've found some really good deals out here in the Phoenix area. If you give me an idea where you're at I could take a peek at your craigslist.

You guys are too nice! This is a great forum. I've got a the subwoofer Malveaux recommended shipped on the way. It should be here on Monday. I am wondering how I would mount up the other speakers Kingnoob posted (Jamo Studio Series S 803 HCS-WH) though. My mountings are 6 inches long and L shaped. They won't hold those big guys. Do they make a good way to put them up or are they just for sitting out on a table? And the atmos top thing, is that worth adding it later?

Well there are beefier mounts but have you decided exactly on what speakers? I'd pick speakers then see what's appropriate for mounts but you may need to think about size/weight so you can estimate the type and cost of mounts you need.

Some speakers come with some threaded inserts (usually 1/4-20) that make it easier to use various mounting hardware with threaded mounts, some a mere keyhole type provision, some have nothing at all, but you could drill into the speaker if need be...carefully.

Here's one good up to 8 lbs it says http://www.pinpointmounts.com/AM-30_Universal_Speaker_Wall_Mount_Black.html....I've used these on some slightly lighter (think they were about 6-7 lbs each) and you really had to tighten them to keep them from moving. Think I tried them with some 10 lb speakers and they just insisted on moving where gravity wanted (not what I wanted).

For larger, heavier speakers I've used these, like them and these don't particularly need you to secure the speaker with other than the clamping mechanism they use, but some still screw into the speakers when using a fair amount of tilt http://www.pinpointmounts.com/AM-40_Side_Clamping_Bookshelf_Speaker_Wall_Mount.html

There are other styles/brands, look around some.

Putting speakers on a shelf/table can be done, too...generally you want the speaker not to reflect off that surface, tho.

I'm not very familiar with Jamo speakers. Not saying they aren't any good, just not my usual first choice. I guess I'm saying don't jump on the first suggestion. There are lots of other options out there to explore still. Noob means well, but is still learning a lot himself.

not sure which brand is better , jamos higher end stuff definitely is good tho .
I couldn’t believe how cheap that set was its way more in separate peices , I’ve not heard parts express but they make good speakers and even have cheap packages also .
Tell us how good they sound to op. I nearly bought a mtx sub once went with klh not sure why , definitely a Big center for cheap !!

Speaker level inputs on a sub are called high level inputs. As opposed to line level inputs via the rca inputs on a sub....

ps the line level inputs are also called low level inputs
