Hi all,

I'm very new to this forum and to audio equipment. I'm looking for help  ..I'd like to set up a home theater system in my basement which is small (12 feet x 14 feet). I'll probably get a Sharp 42" LCD. However, I've read on this site that all Home Theater audio in a box is shiat..So I need your help.
My budget for audio is around $1000. Is it possible to get decent sound for such a small amount of cash? I take it I need a receiver and speakers..anything else??? . What components (speakers/receiver) would you recommend?? How would you split the budget (more on speakers? less on receiver or the other way around?) Your help is greatly appreciated..
I'm not looking for really really loud..just really good sound.

Thanks:)

Basement???

12x14???

I would now like to launch into an entire slew of reasons why you want to go with front projection instead of a 42" LCD. Mostly dealing with the fact that you can get a 80" diagonal (or larger) HD image that will blow you away if light control is pretty good down there.

42" sounds way to small IMO.

$1,000 delivers a few options for speakers and receiver that can deliver. Something like the Pioneer 816 (or is it 817 now?) is great... There are similarly priced Denon or Yamaha models that will do well also.

Speakers... well, I'll leave that opinion up to someone else.

Thanks BMXTRIX,

Can you give me the code for the Denon or Yamaha or Onkyo receivers you would recommend? How would you split my budget between receiver and speakers 40/60?? 50/50?? 20/80?? Which is more important receiver or speakers?

Can anyone out there recommend speakers?
