Help me pick a (used) pre/pro

Looking to make the jump to separates for my HT and am in the market for a pre/pro. I'm only running a 5.1 setup, and I have no need for video processing since I run that signal directly to the TV. I really prefer to buy quality used gear I could never afford when it was new. Need to keep it under $500.

Here is my short list:
  • Acurus Act-3
  • B&K Reference 30
  • Sony TA-9000es
  • Emotiva LMC-1 (should be a ton of these up for sale soon)

Anyone have thoughts or experiences on these? Any others you would recommend looking into?

Thanks

I would get the Emotiva LMC-1, but the LMC-2 is coming out soon.

What kind of amps do you have?

If I just wanted simple 5.1 DD or DTS, and did not care for all the new surround formats or HDMI, I would get the Acurus.

Acurus amps - 200x3 and A250

Primarily looking for solid 5.1 DD/DTS ability. The LMC-2 really doesn't interest me since I don't care about the HDMI switching. Plus I think that a lot of people will be looking to unload their LMC-1s when the new lineup comes out.

That Fosgate does look interesting - that's a new one for me.

I am trying to remember what else Fosgate makes. I know that Fosgate harbors a high end brand name that comands more respect than Fosgate does here in the States, but I bet you that pre/pro is probably the same template as many other high end pre/pros that sell for much more.

Basically what I am saying, is that pre/pro is a good deal.:)

A used Rotel 1068 may be slightly out of your price range but you may want to consider the 1066.

TJD, in the near future (hopefully sooner than later) I am going to unload my refurbished T-163 that I've had since last May. I can trade it to my dealer for any product I buy from him (almost guaranteed to be a demo if I choose to do so), but I still just might go Audiogon because that's how good some prices are.

If you are interested, I will sell it to you when that day comes, at no more than $500, actually most likely less than that. Cheers, good luck in your search.
