Help me pick a reciever. Help! :P

So I bought a denon 589 by someones reccomendation then found out that it won't pass audio through the hdmi.

Kinda defeats the purpose of hdmi eh? I purchased a 5.1 ascend surround sound set.

using existing woofer i have the 340se mains and 340se center with 170se surrounds...

However I have no amplifier that passes through the hd audio. I mean sure I could use a coax and optical for some things right? but here is my problem.

I have a pc, an xbox, and cable that I want to be able to route through these speakers. So I dunno if the denon 589 is the best price. I do not like the idea of paying a big restocking fee for them though. -sigh-

Still i was looking at a denon 591 or a 1910, really what should I get anyways? 350 dollars is my hopeful ceiling, i might be willing to go to 400 but my whole setup is getting expensive for someone who is working retail.

buying a 46 inch led samsung tv later this week.

Anyway let me know. thanks.. In short if the denon 589 could work, tell me how I would wire it roughly so I can make sense, or do I really need a better one with my speakers and etc? Anyways please help me, thank you.

You have a few choices.

1. You could run the xbox through component video and use the 4 digital inputs but you would still be short of ports when you add a Blu-Ray player.
2. Monoprice sells a 4X1 HDMI 1.3b certified switch with toslink & digital coaxial ports for $50. They are current out of stock and I have not tried one out and so can't vouch for the functionality.
3. You could return the Denon and if in the US order a refurbished Onkyo TX-SR607 for $300. They only ship to US addresses. The cleanest solution is the 607.

Nice. I think I might use the denon on my old 720p tv. I do not like dakmarts 20% restocking fee.

That Onkyo looks good, I think I will stare at it for the night before I take the plunge -nod- My only quibble with it is on this same forum up a few topics I read a onkyo horror story from the same vendor using the same avr..

It makes me pause. Otherwise it looks super. I think I will likely look for it from a different vender.

You'll find my reply to that thread in the thread. I Bought my TX-SR606 from accessories for less and it went smoothly however if you don't mind paying a bit more you could always join club onkyo and see what members only specials they have.

The reality is no dealer will take back a product after 30 days - especially if the serial number is missing. That's a huge red flag. The first 30 days are handled by the dealer. The next 11 months are handled by the manufacturer.

The 607 is cheap at accessories for less because they are Onkyo's b-stock dealer. It's also cheep because it's last year's model. The $500 608 is this year's model.

The 589 is a best buy piece and I mean that in a negative way. go for the 190 and forget the LCD. Plasma rules

Cant guarantee anything is NOT a scam on ebay or elsewhere, but it doesn't sound like an impossible deal to me. Just google for 765 deals and you will see a lot of places may sell for around that price or cheaper. Just use paypal and you shouldn;t lose your money if you are worried. I use ebay all the time and rarely run into problems...got 4 Energy LCR for $75 a piece which is a steal, on ebay...

It could be right on or it could be gray market which would mean no warranty.

Reviews in the last year mean something. Reviews before that could be iffy because a lot of ebay sellers made it very clear that if you didn't give them a 5 star feedback that they would trash you with revenge feedback. I've heard that ebay put a stop to that practice.
