Hey now guys if the guy is happy with his Bose system we really shouldn't bash him for it.

IMHO if he's happy with his system then great for him.

As for the guy that has a problem with loudness in his Bose I think the idea of contacting Bose customer support is a great idea. I would hope that they could walk him through something that will help.

the room is not very big .. regular sized family room ...~15X15. How do I calibrate the system?
If you don't have a receiver that has an automatic calibration function, then you need a SPL meter (~$40 at Radio Shack). Then you run the test tones in the receiver's setup and adjust each channel to the appropriate level. This gets each speaker matched to the correct level at your listening position relative to your room.

I would check to see if you have any "night" modes turned on or any other kind of attenuation. What mode are you listening in? Does it do the same thing with all sources? What do you have connected to it and how are they connected?

With his receiver turned up almost all the way and barely hear it, something is not right. Even in stores with other background sounds they sound loud.
I thought perhaps their impedance is very high.
I agree, something is definitely wrong.
