HELP - JVC RX-6008V Overload

I have a JVC RX-6008V receiver as part of a basic home theatre package (home theatre in a box) I got 5 years ago and it has worked fine.

Yesterday I switched the speaker cable for my side and rear surround speakers because I moved them to new wall mounts. The previous speaker cable I had was very cheap and came with the system. The upgraded speaker cable is 16 gauge.

Now, everytime I turn on the receiver to watch a DVD, the receiver flashes "OVERLOAD" and shuts off when there is an increase in volume. I have checked all the connections several times to make sure they are correct (+ to +, - to -), I have consulted the owner's manual (which says nothing other than "find the cause of the short circuit") and I don't know what else to do. The ONLY change to the system is the speaker cable!

At each connection point there IS a small amount of bare wire (this is a wire connection, not plugs), but there was some with the previous cable as well.

Can someone help me troubleshoot this? THANK YOU!!

Check all your connections to ensure that no bare wire is touching metal or that the + and - are not touching this will cause the signal to be sent back to the amp thus describing the issue that you are reffering to.

thanks

Stizach - thanks, that was it. Had some + and = rubbing up against each other on one of the speakers. Fixed it and it all sounds great now.
