Thanks for this great forum to help understand the ins and outs of great audio and video for the home.
I have been trying to hook-up my new TV to the following to allow my DVD-R to record off the television with no success. Here is what I have and am trying to work with.
Toshiba 42" TV, DirectTV Cable Box, DVD-R, and Sony Surround Sound Receiver.
I am able to get surround sound to work from both the TV and DVD player, but am unable to get the DVD-R to record anything. I currently have the cable box going into the DVD-R then to the TV. and surround sound coming out of the DVD-R.
Any help would be so much appreciated. I will be traveling and do not want to miss the BCS and NFL playoff games coming up, thanks for anyones help

It's a DVD-R and not a DVR? Only DVR's can record programs coming from your cable box. A DVD-R copies one CD to a blank CD. I think you have the wrong piece of equipment for what you are trying to do.

update

Thanks for your feedback, I now have a combination Panasonic VCR-and recordable DVR system that I am trying to hookup to the Toshiba TV and Sony Surround Sound, I still am unable to get the new combination system to record off the TV/cable box from either the VCR or the DVR player.

Thanks for you help

Frustrated... pretty sure you double posted this. Check the thread in the General forum, I responded and may have been able to solve your problem.
