Alot more work not sure about that, ok, you download some files from iTunes, Amazon or HDtracks to your PC's hard drive, copy to your USB drive. Plug USB drive into a AVR or a player (ex; oppo ) that can accommodate a USB drive, access the file and bingo your now into media or copy files to a external harddrive and access that drive via a wired or wireless connection from the AVR or a player select the file and play. Not that difficult. But, I also kinda like to take that CD and set into the Rega's top and watch it read and play, kinda timeless and cool.
Sounds like work to me. :p

Panny DMP-BDT500

Thanks John, I decided to go with the Panny DMP-BDT500, exceptional BD video and audio. It also has a real good analog stage for CD playback, I don't have any SACD or DVD audio discs, so I think the Panny is the more logical and value (price wise) option for how I intend to use it. I also noticed it uses four high quality Burr-Brown Dacs for the analog stage.

Cheers and Thanks, Jeff:)

It does matter. DACs do play a role, so if the player's analog section is better than your receiver, the player via analog will sound better. How much better is hard to say. I had the 83 and it had good analog performance. When I upgraded it to the 83SE, the analog performance jumped quite a bit and is still actually better than the UMC-200. The 103 may be perfectly fine sound wise, but I'm going to have to expect the 105 to be a step up from it. So it sort of depends on what you're after. I feel my Panny BD-65 has a decent analog section and have no complaints about it. It isn't nearly as good as my 83SE, but I don't feel short changed when I listen to the Panny because it is good enough. So it is a matter of what you are OK with.

I couldn't agree with that statement more.;)

The guy asked for a recommendation for a CD player, and mostly he gets responses trying to convince him to ditch the idea of CD and go digital. Not everybody wants to go digital. dgvoyles - don't give in!! I love my CDs too :). Some nice players to look at are models from NAD, Marantz, and Cambridge Audio. You could a good one for what you want to spend. Just my 2 cents..

Best cd player I've ever owned is my trusty Denon 2910. I now own an Oppo 105 (which is amazing btw) and I still can't bring myself to get rid of the Denon. Beautiful fit and finish, loads up fast, and has terrific audio performance. You can find them for sale used all over for cheap. There's a couple for sale manufacturer refurbished for around $350 on flea bay.

The problem I have with the computer based systems and also BLu-Rays like OPPO is the technical aspects. I'm 65 and not very technically sophisticated. When I read about the computer systems (lossless ...., flac....) I get confused and I think the Oppos would just confuse me with all the options. I am comfortable with push in the CD and listen. I know it's sad, I feel the pain. Thanks for the suggestion though.
You can get a good CD player from any of the major companies, like Marantz, Yamaha, etc. The major companies all pretty well know how to make a good player, so what you should get depends mostly on the features you want. For example, do you want a changer or a single disc player?

I personally am having trouble finding what I want (which I have another thread about), which is a "silver" faced carousel CD changer. No one seems to sell them in the U.S. But if you do not care about the color (and consequently, if you do not care if you need lots of light to be able to see the controls on the front panel), there are still quite a few options, though not as many as there were back in the 1990's.

Seriously, I have no life.
I have finally retired and decided to put together a good stereo system. Here is what I'm leaning towards now: NHT Classic 3 bookshelf speakers (with or without 10" sub). Emotiva XPA 200 Amp and Emotiva USP 1 preamp. I would like some help in choosing a New CD player. I am trying to stay under $3000. total so about $500. for the CD player. I will be listening to demonstration quality classical orchestral and chamber music; 1950's cool jazz; jazz vocalists (mostly female) and folk rock. I want a CD player with as good a quality and sound as the other components (if this is possible. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Hi, and welcome. Not sure if you found your CD player yet as this post is 2 month old.
You can certainly find a new CD player as good as your components you are selecting and for much less than your $500 goal. By the way, do you currently have a CD player? If so which one? Does it still working? If so, most likely you don't really need to replace it even if it only has analog audio output.
If not, you could certainly find one on line new with digital audio out and it should be practically plug and play. Go to Amazon and search for CD players. I see at least half a dozen on the first page that looks like the usual CD players, not those modern one.;)
They are all good and inexpensive, under $200. By the way, the $$$$ sign doesn't make them better.

I was in the same bought a while back and wanted a CD player myself. No bells and whistles, just pop in a CD and hit play. I ended up talking to Mark (TLSguy), and bought a Revox from him that was made in the early mid 80's. It's one of my favorite pieces of equipment I own and I am very happy I was able to get it. BTW, Mark is definitely to be trusted on purchasing equipment. He had great communication, shipped item quickly, and it was well packed and was exactly as described.

Yesterday I bought a Sony CDP-CE500/M five-disc CD player. I was using a Sony DVD player. The CD player sounds a little better, better overall resolution, more detail. Best Buy matched Amazon.com's price, so I saved $40. Peace and goodwill.
