No and for $80 you can extend the 2 year warranty to a 5 year. It just seems strange to only have 2 years on electronics but yet 7 on the woofer.
That is their way of telling you which part will likely die first. That sort of thing is why I like having passive subwoofers driven by a separate power ąmp. I have had ąmp failure on a subwoofer before, but never woofer failure on a subwoofer. I now use a pair of SVS CS-Ultra subwoofers, and drive them with a separate ąmp. Now if I have ąmp failure, it would be very easy to deal with it, as I could simply substitute any ąmp I want (or repair the current ąmp). With many subwoofers with built-in ąmps, there is equalization specific to the design, so simply substituting another ąmp often is not a good solution. I wish SVS still made Ultra subwoofers that were passive, but since I have no plans on upgrading anyway, it is not terribly important to me presently.

If they had equal confidence in the ąmp as they have in the actual woofer, they would have equal warranties.

I have 2 separate systems - one HT and one for audio only. Although I'm not a bass fanatic, in both cases I went with 2 subs of the same model that give excellent results.

Prevailing wisdom is that 2 or more units smooths out the bass response in the room and can largely eliminate null areas when placed correctly. What ever brand and model you choose, it would be wise to go with two if you can swing it.

Good luck...

I would agree with you ONLY if he will NEVER upgrade. Otherwise, it would be better to buy one really good subwoofer now, and then for the upgrade simply buy another identical subwoofer. That way it will be cheaper than buying two lesser subwoofers now, which both will have to be replaced for the upgrade.

Given the way many people do not wait until they have enough money to buy something really good, and therefore want to upgrade, I think most people would be better off buying only one subwoofer at a time. And with a budget of $750, I would certainly buy just one subwoofer instead of trying to get two.

I personally would probably go with:

PC12-- SVS

If you don't like the shape, you can pay more for similar performance (though also heavier and harder to move; the shape affects the weight, as a tube is inherently stronger than a flat surface, so it can be thinner for the same strength):

PB12-NSD - SVS

Here is a review of the box model:

Hsu is also a good choice in subwoofer. And there are other good brands; you might want to read up on the subwoofer reviews at this site.

Of course, more money could get you a better subwoofer, but at your price point, I would probably go with the PC12-NSD - SVS.
