hello everyone, I'm new to the Audio area and I need some help. Last time i bought a receiver it was for my stero system which has long since been obsolete. I'm a gamer and would like to hear some better sound then whats comming out of those crappy TV speakers so I'm looking for a new receiver so i can hook up an audio system. I'm planning on hooking up a PS3, Xbox360, Wii, and at some point my HTPC. Now i still have some old infinity speakers that i would like to use but im not sure of the watts on them. They say 10-175 watts but im pretty sure the RMS is 100W. This is my first hurtal, can i use a receiver, such as the onkyo SR605 which puts out 90Ws with my old speakers or is that stupid. The other reciever i have looked at is the Yamaha RX-V661, and the Onkyo SR705. However these are a bit high up in the price range for my bidget. Is it worth getting one of these? Or should i buy something like the Sony STR-DG810. But this one does not have the EQ setting i would like. As you can see im thourghly confused and have no idea what i should do. Can anyone help me out here?

Receiver options

The Yamaha and Onkyo models are good options with comparable features. Either will work great. Hooking up your old speakers to the receiver should be an upgrade from the TV speakers, but start saving for a 5.1 speaker upgrade after the receiver purchase.

If you plan to stick with 2.0 and not surround sound, there are still some stereo receivers, or you could pick up a used one at a thrift store of pawn shop for cheap.
