(note, I also posted this in avs forums so please don't shoot me)
Hi folks,
I’m in the middle of designing and purchasing my very first home theatre system, so please forgive the idiotic questions – still feeling my way through this.
I was prepared to buy a receiver this morning (2310) when I just saw the press release about the Denon 2011 models. I know a lot of posts have been flying back and forth about them but I can use some advice for a very specific question: 2310 vs. 791/1911 for the setup below.
I really can’t justify spending more than $600 on a receiver currently, so the 2311 is out. Looks like the 791/1911 will be in my price range. Currently the 2310 is quite reasonably priced at EE, around $530 pre-shipping. Honestly I’m a bit confused as to why their 2310 is cheaper than the 1910 (ideas anyone?), but whatever.
My setup is as follows: I was about to buy the speakers + receiver today.
- Samsung 52A750 (~ 1.5 years old, no 3d support, don’t plan on buying a new tv for years)
- Aperion Audio speakers (2 x 4T right/left; 5c center; 2 x 4BP surrounds; 8D or 10D woofer)
Things to be plugged into the receiver include
- computer (radeon 5870 via HDMI 1.3a Cat 2 cable)
- xbox 360 via HDMI 1.3a Cat 2 cable
- ps3 via HDMI 1.3a Cat 2 cable
- optical out from TV
- OTA tv signal
- Other as of yet unpurchased devices, but really nothing that will use analog connectors
So I’m trying to make sense out of the “new” features in the 2011 line to see if it’s worth waiting.
- HDMI 1.4: While nice, I think it’s meaningless for me as I don’t care about networking over HDMI and my tv can’t support 3d anyway.
- Pro Logic IIz: Didn't the 2310 support this anyway?
- HD radio: 1911 should have this, and it’s probably the only feature that I might use that isn't on the 2310
- Audyssey DSX: Is this any different than Audyssey Multi-EQ, and, more importantly, would it be of any use to me?
So there you have it. Do you folks think there would be any benefit for me in getting a lower model # in the new lineup or should I stick with the 2310 and take advantage of the price point? Note that I may have missed a lot of the new features in the 1911/791 - I'm just trying to piece this together from the posts I've read so far.
I’d appreciate any suggestions (even if they’re “wait to see what other features are announced in case you think there are more) as I’m way outside of my knowledge zone here. Trying to learn, one step at a time!
Cheers!
