Help choosing a studio monitor pair.

I realize that this site is mostly dedicated to home audio, but I know there are some pro guys on here I have talked to, and beyond that, I know a lot of home audio guys are pro savvy too.

I want to setup a pair of studio monitors. I was thinking of buying M&Ks new smaller active monitors they just came out with, but then I heard they were going to be $1000 bucks each MSRP....that's a bit over my budget.

My budget is probably $1000 total... and I have to dedicate 100 bucks for the M&K BMC-MINI bass management controller/crossover.

What do you guys recommend in that price range? Or perhaps a seperate amp (RCA inputs only though) and a pair of passive monitors?

I'm a little lost and I don't want my project to go over my budget. :/

Thanks for any help!

I think those might be a little too cheap... I'm still looking for quality, but, I just don't want to surpass 1000 total....err, 900 bucks if it doesn't include bass management (because then I gotta buy a BMC from M&K).

Studio monitors

Hi there. I haven't heard them myself... but from what I've read the Mackie 824's get rave reviews. Check their website... the flatness of their response curve is unreal... if its accurate.

I checked into pricing... they run for $900 Canadian each. That would be around $600 US. I know thats over your budget but they're self powered so you save on amplification.

I hope this helps.

Mackie 824's all the way, very flat perfect for recording studios.

I would suggest a pair of Green Mountain Audio Europas. I'm eventually going to get a pair - right now I'm running a pair of Sequerra Met 7s so my basic advice is go with time coherent monitors - ESPECIALLY in a studio environment!

Don't get hung up on flat frequency response curves, it's more about a smooth step response, and the GMAs will provide a great neutral monitor for recording and mixing.
