Help A Newb Finish His Setup

Well, I heard the Venturi's which are older, but they sound good to my virgin ears. I think total I have about $2600-2800 invested in the speakers. I bought all of it through them, so that's why I am able to get the retroactive discount. Even though I like what I read on that Yamaha, for the mere price, availability, and shipping times, I am just going to go with the Denon by default. I'm tired of waiting. I mean my living room with no AVR is like a restored car sitting in a garage with engine at this point (can't do much). The hard part of installing all of the wiring in a house built in 1961 was no easy task, but done. Everything was done clean with plates and everything. And I even custom designed my media console around the speakers that I have (which is nearing completion with ebonizing the interior part of the cabinet and an espresso or java color on the exterior. Before I get ridiculed for putting subs in a cabinet, one, I don't have room, and two, the bottoms of the shelves on both sides are configured by me to replicate that of the SubDude to decouple.

You've thought & thought, analyzed & analyzed, tried your best to get all your ducks in a row. It's time to act. With that retroactive 30% discount, go get that damn Denon .

We expect to hear full details of the fun day you'll have installing the receiver and going through the Denon set-up wizard.

It could be worse, I could be an engineer and "think" I know better than everyone else and never get it complete or think I could engineer one better myself.

I've always get receivers from accessories4less so be sure to compare your price to theirs.

Doesn't accessories4less only sell refurbished units? Not that there's anything wrong with that if they actually back the stuff, but I like shiny new stuff. lol

They sell both you just gotta look and see. I personally prefer refurbs when it comes to receivers. These days it's not as bad but back when HDMI was coming out refurbs were the fixed units and new units were the broken ones.

I was just on a chat there. I was looking at the Yamaha RX-A3050. The description says that it has a one year factory warranty. It also states "Free Three Year Warranty With Purchase". Seems like a good deal, but I asked if the 3 year one starts on day of purchase, or when the factory warranty runs out. The guy in chat said after the factory warranty runs out. I said ok, cool, so it's a total of 4 years then. He said no 3. I said that you just told me that the extended warranty begins after the factory one runs out. He said it does. I guess he went to public school, because where I come from, 1+3=4. So, I said then really you're getting only a 2 year extended warranty. He said, no 3. I said that doesn't add up, then he disconnected the chat.

I don't believe Acoustic sound design is authorized dealer for Denon or Yamaha - factory warranty is void when purchased through these types of sellers-
Denon and yam upper line receivers have 3 year warranty
They sell you the extended warranty to cover the term not covered by their own 1 year warranty.
These guys buy from authorized dealers for slightly more than cost and resell to you.
Typically, after receiving an order, they go find one through their network and resell to you.
There are many of these domestic Gray market sites out there
And they rarely stock what you want.
They keep their online reputation up by paying a vendor to monitor for negative reviews which are then squashed.

Normally extended warranties start day 1 and cover things outside the warranty in the first year and everything after that. That said I think refurbs are often a better bet because they already fixed the major issues with the receiver.

Well, I decided to get the Yamaha RX-A3050, and I ordered it this afternoon. Should be here Tuesday, and I'll be calling in sick Wednesday if that is the case. Lol

I have a fairly probably common question for a newbie, but I just happened to be poking around my local ___list ads and saw an A125X5 amp that I can pick up used, but in good condition for $230. I may not need it now, for sure, but it seems like a good price. My question is, do you just use a single RCA cable out from the AVR to the amp, then connect the speaker wire to the external amp, then re-run the auto EQ setup? Or do you need a specific type of cable? Again, I don't really know what I am doing, but a pure 125WPC would seem to take a big burden of the receiver and really power my 4 towers and center pretty well in another room in the future.

I assume you're referring to an Acurus A125x5 amplifier? Yeah, it's a good deal if it's in very good condition and works you couldn't go wrong at that price. You don't need special cables, RCAs will work fine. And you are correct about how to connect it.
