Hello everybody. I'm a new member. I'm going to by a new home theater system. Could you tell me about Marantz 8001 receiver? I don't know what to buy. I really need your help. I want to spend about $3,000. Could you tell me if Marantz 8001 is a good choice? What about the speakers? Please help.

For speakers I would get out and listen to as many as you can, no one can decide for you what speakers you would like, the speakers I recommend could sound horrible to you and sound like magic to me.;)

Also, always pick speakers first. After you decide on speakers then find proper amplification. If you pick easy to drive, efficient speakers you may not need as much power, so you could save some money and get a lower model Marantz or other make (Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer and many more in no particular order).

Decide whether you want 5.1 or 7.1 (5 speakers and subwoofer/s is 5.1 and 7 speakers and subwoofer/s is 7.1). You don't half to buy the subwoofer/s from the same make as your speakers, but it is recommended that all speakers match.

Do you already have some source components, receiver, speakers or any other gear that would be associated with your home theater? If you could list those with models that would help start you on the way to your personal audio bliss.:)

Welcome to the forum Andy, I hope this hobby doesn't run your broke like it has me.;)

Welcome Andyj,
Seth's giving you good advice to choose speakers first. They are the part of your system that actually produce the sound, so they have to actually produce a sound that's pleasing to your ear. Amplifiers can come in a variety of types and you may prefer speakers that present a demanding load to an amplifier, requiring a more powerful or low impedence design type of amp.

At any rate, you will be far better off getting answers in either the amp or speaker forum, instead of buried down here in the "Write your own review" forum. Maybe a mod can move the thread for you or start a new one.

And don't mind Seth=L. It's not the hobby that broke him, its the addiction that got him.
