Hey everyone.. My 1st post on here.. I guess you can say I am in the begining stages of being an Audiophile.. I've learned a bit but still have lots to learn.. I recently bought a Harman Kardon AVR-1600 receiver.. I got to admit, the sucker got me in with its good looks.. I did some researching before I bought the receiver.. Its more then I need, and it has all the outputs for future applications.. Right now im running a 2 stereo channel setup only because of my room size.. With 5.1 channels the sound would be overwhelming in this room, barely any sound transfer between speaker to speaker.. I cant even imagine 6.1 or 7.1 in this room at all.. Right now Im borrowing, a pair of speakers.. Apparently they are white van speakers.. $200 for 4, cant go wrong..Samaurai made up brand, but I noticed the speakers dust caps have been spray painted black..With lamp held up close to them, shows it true brand, Pyramid 200watts on the subwoofer..Look like dj speakers, with black carpet..With the Harman Kardon they have life but I would like to go Cerwin vega, perferably VE-12 Series (300watts) The Harman kardon is rated at 55 watts at 35 amps..Finally the question is : Will that be suffice for the Cerwin Vegas? Or would it be too much? I dont want to blow and fuses.. Last question- is 14 gauge non-oxidized copper enough for the cerwin vega speakers?.. Mind you the speaker wire is 6 years old.. Thanks in advance.. Richard..

Well, the difference in volume between your speaker driven at 300W and 30W is 10db. 60W (which you are closer to) would be -8db from 300W.

Specifically, with 93db sensitivity, you will get 108db at 50W at 1m before you add in room accentuation.

I suspect you will be fine, though if you want to get louder than an actual jackhammer, you could add more power.

I'm not a big CV fan, but knock yourself out. :)

*edit* It looks like the CV is 300W peak, not RMS: so it's not clear that you will see much sustained volume difference regardless.

-8dB? If 60W is two times 30W, it would be +3dB from 30W, right?
