Hell Freezes Over - DVD-A??

I like the Eagles, and after all the comments I've read about how great Hell Freezes Over is on dvd-a, I decided to buy it. Trouble is I've been looking for this but am having some difficulty finding it. I haven't been able to locate the album on DVD-A, just DTS, CD, and the regular DVD version. Am I looking for the wrong copy? What is the version people here keep commenting on that has dvd-a and a DTS soundtrack (& maybe others) that keeps getting rave reviews?

Thanks

Jack

I believe they are all referring to the DTS 5.1 version.

There is no DVD-A of this (which is weird). There are two DVD-V versions, one with DD and the original that is in dts. I have the dts version is very good; a little hot in the surrounds, but overall the disc is excellent. My favorite track is Seven Bridges Road. You may be getting confused with HFO is the Hotel California DVD-A, which is also supposed to be very good.

I was Best Buy and the sales guy :)o I know) said the dvd version was stereo only, I didn't see a dts logo. When I was looking at the cd's there was a regular cd sized one that had the dts logo on it.

J Garcia, I remember you posting before that it was a really good album to get. So, I'm looking for the regular dvd version with a DTS track.

Thanks

For the DVD, if it doesn't have the DTS logo on the front top, I can almost guarantee it is the DD version. It should look like this:

This DVD has a Dolby stereo track also, so theoretically the BB salesperson is correct, but that is becase DTS discs were required to have a DD2.0 track included because all DVDs must have some form of Dolby on there to be compatible with the majority of gear. Not all gear was DTS capable with this and other DTS DVDs came out.

The DTS cd is the same, but why not have the video too? I believe the CD also lacks Seven Bridges Road, which is a bonus track on the DVD that has no on stage footage. I think this is one of the coolest DTS tracks I've heard. When you get a hold of it, go stand by each speaker. In your listening position you hear the total result and it sounds cool, but walk up to each speaker and you will find that each speaker has the voice of just one singer in it :D

to me, HFO was toooooo much Henley. the new concert, Farewell 1, has much more from the other members...

By the way, if you like these guys, and maybe a little Floyd and Rush, you might also want to consider the Porcupine Tree DVD-As of In Absentia and Deadwing (both of which have DTS tracks for those who do not have a DVD-A capable player). Both are very cool and have excellent surround. Deadwing was listed as #2 in the 10 best albums of 2005 by Stereophile mag.

:D I know what you mean. I like Henley though, so it didn't bother me too much. There is also a Don Henley show DVD in DTS that is probably good too, if you happen to like Henley.

I had seen it mentioned here a few times, and I've noticed that generally, though not always, you seem to have similar tastes in music as I do. That being said, I ordered a copy off of Ebay a few minutes ago. I hope I'll like it as much as everyone else.

Next time I'm in Best Buy, I'll pick up the Eagles album too.

Thanks
Jack

My copy of the dts-Digital Surround CD has the seven bridges road bonus track.

I purchased the dts-CD because at the time I did not have a DVD player in my music room. I could play the CD but could not have played the DVD.

I wasn't sure if it was on there or not. It wasn't listed, but then it wouldn't be a bonus track would it :)

I don't like every track, but there are some good ones on both of those albums.

That's OK, I won't hold it against you if I don't like it. :D Since I picked up Dark side of the moon on SACD a few months back I've been looking for some good 5.1 music to listen to. I picked up a "5.1 digital" recording of Handel's Water Music only to find it was a 2 channel DD mix that separated okayish into 5.1 but wasnt atrue 5.1 mix (then again, what should I have expected for $1.99).

I also bought NIN Downward spiral dual disc and that sounds fantastic. I just haven't seen alot that I've been interested in or wanted to double dip for in SACD/DVD-A.

If you like NIN, one of the best things out there IMO, is the And All That Could Have Been DVD in DTS (1509k full bitrate). It sounds awsome. The Dual Disc version of With Teeth has some very cool surround too.

Wow!!

After much searching and no real luck trying to find the version of Hell Freezes Over shown (it's out of print), I went to Best Buy last night hoping they might have something comparable. They did. they had the new release which includes a 2.0, 5.1 DD, and the original DTS 5.1 mix on sale for $11.99. Yeah, I bought it. It sounds amazing. This is one of the best things I've listened to through my system so far.

The surrounds are a bit "loud", but I really like how the audience noises throughout the disc made me feel like I was actually there in person. There is quite a bit going on in the surround channels.

Anyway, thanks for all the help, It really made a difference for me.
