Heavy 'static' noise

Hello,
I've got a set of DTT3500 5.1 speakers, creative, around 4 years old now.
But they've suddenly started to 'crackle' like theres heavy static on them.
After numerous tests, I've found it to be the amp thats causing this, but whats funny about it is if I put it on standby (soft power off) and back on again, the crackles swap channels sometimes.
I.e crackling in front left & rear right swap to front right & rear left.

I've even tried other speakers, taking the amp apart looking for loose wires etc but cant find anything.

If anyone knows what might be causing it, or a fix for it would be greatly appreciated, although from what i've found already it sounds like (pardon the pun) a new set of speakers. I doubt I can get a replacement amp.

Many thanks
Vod

Likely dust on the pots (rotary adjustment knobs) such as the volume or balance knob. A little compressed air or electrical contact cleaner aimed at the right spot (likely only accessable from inside) will do the trick. Common problem with older gear.
