Hi all...
I've noticed that my hearing is not as good as it used to be. i.e. I'm 36 and was an idiot who played the drums for too many years without hearing protection and now music isn't as lively as I remember it being when I was younger. That totally does not rock. Anyway, while trying to understand my ears' frequency range sensitivity, I ran in across a nice website that I thought I'd share (it didn't show up on a search of AH).
The site: audiocheck.net
While no substitute for a proper hearing test, this site has some blind tests on your ability to hear differences in volume as well as tone distinction and dynamic range (At 440 Hz) of your room. The sweeps were nice for not only performing a qualitative hearing test, but also for getting a feel for your loudspeaker and/or sub setup. Remember the key word is
qualitative. Because some of the tests are monotonic, room dynamics (suck out, etc.) are not accounted for at all.
While sitting at the computer, I had the best results by downloading the files and playing them directly; apparently the audio plug-in that my browser uses sucks - aliasing out the wazoo was evident when I played the sounds through the browser. I have semi-OK desktop speakers; YMMV.
I may burn a few of these to CD to listen to my home speakers (boy, won't that be appreciated by my family...

)
Anyway, have fun and if you find this tool truly technically deficient somehow, post up. I don't want to be promoting a fatally flawed tool for more than what it's weakest link is. *I have no afflilation with the audiocheck site.)
