Headphones and speaker sound at same time?

My wife has some hearing damage...as such she has trouble hearing the dialogue clearly when we watch movies via our HT setup. I thought she'd be able to hear better if i got her a pair of wireless headphones to listen through, but i'd still like to be able to listen via our main HT system.

What's the best way to do this? Run wireless headphones off a separate preamp? Or?

Having her hear will make our HT watching better for both of us...she'll be able to hear and i won't have to keep answering questions about what was just said.

Thanks.

Like BP says, a lot depends on your receiver and the headphones you select.

I checked out the manual for a Sennheiser 130 stereo wireless headphone and it does have a volume control and it plugs into a headphone jack on the receiver.

My receiver, A Denon 2802, allows the use of headphones independent of the speaker settings so I have to turn the speakers off when I only want the headphones. Conversely, if I wanted to use them both simultaneously.

But, one cannot be sure they will play loud enough for her needs without trying them.

Again, a lot depends on three variables: Your AVR, the headphones and her needs.

I've seen wireless headphones that actually plug into RCA analog outputs on the back of a receiver and not into the headphone jack. Depending on the other aspects of your system as mentioned above, that type of connection might work well for you.

I have Sennheiser TR120 wireless headphones. They are plugged into the (let's call it) zone 2 output of my A/V receiver. When I turn on zone 2 it turns on the headphones and I have a bit of range to turn audio up even more if I would like to as well as the volume control on the headphones themselves which go FAR louder than I would possibly want them to.

I do get static in them from time to time which is obnoxious, but I use them for after the kids are in bed which is priceless.

My Yamaha receiver turns off the main speakers when headphones are plugged into the headphone out jack which is why I really like the Sennheisers being plugged in via RCA outputs.

Thanks Mark. I'm not sure its the volume so much as the non-dialogue effects interfering with her ability to hear the dialogue.
