Since someone swiped my 4 month old pair of BeyerDynamic DT 880, I'm suddenly on the market for a new pair, but I'm not sure what to buy.
The DT 880's were amazing but I found the bass to be a little weak.
So I was wondering if anyone could recommend a pair of really good headphones with a strong bass - Price irrelevant (sorta)

Thanks in advance!

AKG K701 headphones, or Sennheiser HD-595 or 600 or 650 depending on budget (which will disappear quickly at the HD-650 level)

As I said, budget is no concern.
I was kinda thinking about going with Sennheiser... My "spare" headphones that I'm using (HD 555), are awesome for their price range, but of course, better headphones exist.

I've had nothing else in higher-end headphones to compare them to, but I have no complaints about my Sennheiser 600s. Of all the audio stuff I have, nothing else makes me feel quite so unreservedly in love every time I hear them. Bass is marvelous - you can tell if it were with a sub, things would be shaking and you'd feel it in your chest. Very comfortable also.

Sometime soonish I will get a pair of 650s, but mainly because I'd like a second pair so I don't have to haul one around everywhere and as long as I'm buying...

the grado sr225's - the bass isn't overwhelming, but it's true to the source

...or if price really isn't a consideration, the Grado RS-1

If price is not very relevant - the Stax Omega II is sure to satisfy(just kidding, btw).

Or, even better(seriously).... a 2005 model Beyer DT880 with my specific modification, which fixes the treble reflection/peaking/resonance problems(yes, it has several measured issues that are readily audible via random blind switching w/ a non-modified device) and add a powerful DSP shaping device such as a Behringer DCX2496. I assume these are for home use, there for a DSP device is feasible. If you apply my modification(which i will describe if you request) AND use the DSP device, you have the ability to achieve virtually any headphone sound (within the parameters of detail, timbre and tonality) that you so desire. It is not a conventional headphone set up - but it is superior to virtually anything else if the objective is to achieve your ideal preferred sound signature. I am not a typical enthusiast with typical knowledge; please research my posting history.

You should REALLY look into the Beyerdynamic DT990. Read about it on Head-Fi.org and you'll find that it definitely delivers strong bass performance.

Can the DSP device be configured to emulate a tube amplifier sound? What settings would this require?

Many tube devices may simply alter the frequency response; but in order to copy the exact effect you would have to first measure the response of the tube device driving the intended load so that you can replicate the response curve on the DCX. However, in some cases, tube amps may be designed to produce enormous amounts of harmonic distortion, thus causing a different kind of coloration. The DCX would not be able to copy this effect; the DCX will not produce or add any audible level of harmonic distortion.

If you want the best bass possible in a headphone on an unlimited budget, get the TaKet H2 and something to power it.

Im sure you would want something portable and reasonably priced. The Grado RS2 with flat pads have very heavy and controlled bass. I also recommend the AKG k701 and Sennheiser HD650. You cant go wrong with a grado though.

## EdIt: I also recommend a portable amp if you want a higher end set.###

I'm not familiar with how harmonic distortion sounds. Does this definitely degrade sound quality is it a matter of user preference?

Also, how does the DCX2496 differ from the DEQ2496 other than the crossover feature?
