HDTV definition

Can someone help me understand what exactly is HDTV?

I have a TV which supports both 480p and 1080i resolutions at scans at 100 Hz. Can I say my TV is HDTV? I must add that I live outside the US where we have a PAL system (not NTSC or SECAM)</font>

<font color='#000000'>I don't know about where you live but here in the US TV's like yours are considered HDTV ready. They require the addition of a HDTV tuner in order to display HDTV. I imagine it would be similar at your location as HDTV uses different frequencies for transmission. Of course here in the US it is digital. I have heard that in Japan HDTV is not. Maybe someone else can verify that.
