I recently decided to get Digital Cable HDTV. Anyways, I have a question with regards to set up. My TV has only one jack that allows for DTV and that is Video 5. All the other video jacks (video 1-4) do not allow for progressive scan etc... Thus to watch true digital tv I am forced to use Video 5. Currently my DVD player is connected with component cables to video 5 of the TV to allow for the 480p signal.

Here is the problem. If video 5 is already taken then how am I to hook up the DTV?

My thoughts:

What I think will work is this and I want to know if you agree. My receiver (onkyo) has 2 component Inputs and 1 Output. What I'm thinking is to send the DVD into Component In #1 and the DTV into Component In #2. Then from the Component Out of the receiver to the Video 5 DTV of the TV. Then when I want to watch a DVD I select DVD from the receiver and to watch DTV I choose Video 1 on the receiver (because video 1 on the receiver is set up to get the video from Component #2 In and audio digitally). Is this correct???

Sounds like you've got it figured out. That is exactly what I do in my HT.

I am running DVI from my Directv box direct to the TV. My receiver does not have DVI or HDMI inputs (but I think that most under 1K receivers will in the next generation).

Many here have said that the component hook up will provide a picture that I would have a hard time differenciating from DVI. I'm going to try it and if so I will route satellite and DVD through the receiver for convenience. My current receiver has 30 Mhz component input/output and I thought that might be a little weak for HD. The 2500 takes care of that. The downside is that the receiver will not pass video through when it is powered down. You might want to consider that.

WooHoo,

Better stick with DVI for your TV or one day (planned for mid year), you will be surprised to see an HD program or movie downrez to 480i via component because of a Broadcast flag.

If your STB is HDCP compliant, your TV must be as well...or else, you may have problems with the presence of a flag.
