Since HDMI is an A/V cable, how do you hook up a DVD player video directly to the TV and audio to receiver?

simple

I'm assuming that the DVD player has HDMI.

From the DVD to the Receiver with a HDMI,

From the Receiver to the TV with HDMI,

From the Receiver to speakers using regular speaker wire.

Hope that helps

My H/K AVR230 doesn't have HDMI input/output. Which receivers have HDMI input/output.

Ok...

If the receiver will not have the HDMI then take the HDMI from the DVD to the TV and a digital audio out from the DVD to the receiver. Make sure you go into the menu of the receiver and set the digital input to the correct Video input.
