HDMI Question for Pioneer Elite Receiver

How can I use a HDMI cable with my new Sony 46in LED TV
and my Pioneer VSX-24TX Receiver. It has been a great receiver, and it is like new!!! The VSX-24TX just doesn't have the connectors for HDMI.

Is there any sort of conversion devices or HDMI kits that can be added to the receiver? Thanks for your help.

I'm in the same boat. I have a Yamaha RX-V465 with no HDMI inputs but my TV has HDMI outputs. I plan on using the digital audio out from my TV to the digital audio in on the Yamaha for sound only as a work-around.

The receiver you have has a digital audio in. If your TV has a digital audio out, this could be a work-around for you as well. I've seen HDMI to RCA analog converters but usually the cost is so high ($200 and up) it would be good to simply look at a new receiver with the capabilities you want. Of course, I stopped looking when I decided to use a digital audio cable.

Here's an unfortunate (cost wise) solution:

Does your receiver have component connections? If so use them. Trying to use HDMI with your receiver will not work. Getting an HDMI to analog converter is not worth it. Basically it is new receiver time, as your peripherals no longer have to pass HD via analog and product can be flagged not to. You are a victim of DRM which is increasingly forcing HDMI which has built in DRM via the HDCP codes.

Are you using cable, satelite or just over the air broadcasting for your TV?

If using cable or satelite you may be able to run HDMI directly from the tuner box to the TV and use optical out from the tuner box for audio to the receiver. I ran mine that way for 2 years before I upgraded my receiver. You would probably want to use a universal remote like a Harmony to make switching between DVD / Bluray and TV easier.

+1 "raffin's" suggestion.
video directly to the TV by best means

toslink optical cable (or digital coax cable) from source to receiver.

It does mean controling two devices, but it also means the the HDMI inputs will carry audio to the TV if you don't need the receiver on

many, almost all, HDTV's "optical out" is Dolby Digital for the internal ATSC/QAM tuner (over-the-air and cable unencrypted) only and downmixed digital stereo for everything else.

OR, use component cables (video) and optical cables (audio) from sources to receiver and component (video) to the TV. Receiver must be on for all sources to have sound.

Put everything through your tv and run an optical cable to the receiver hope this helps..

there is a problem with running various sources to the TV and then using the TV's optical out to feed the receiver.

Many, many HDTV's only supply 5.1 digital from the TV's internal ATSC/QAM tuner (over-the-air and cable) to the optical output......the other source's audio is downmixed to digital stereo. TV's are not designed to "switch" digital audio sources as a pass through.

Every time I think I have a cheap work around this site forces me to spend more money - such is the pursuit of audiophile bliss... :)

Ah well, I needed an excuse for a new receiver anyhow...
