Hoping some one has info to offer on this problem. HDMI over 2 cat 5 wires with balans from av receiver to LCD TV loses signal when a light or fan switch is turned on. electric supply checked out ok with no grounding or other issues. switches not the problem. Cat5 wires and balans have been changed out. All av equipment checked ok. Using power conditioner and UPS for all equipment did not make a difference. Any other suggestions?
Either the switches are causing a spike and making the receiver pass it on or it's an RF issue. The fact that it only happens when you flip a switch makes it a switch issue but I would check all of the receptacles for loose connections.
How many receptacles are you using for the system? If you're using more than one and one is on a different circuit, that could be part of the problem.
You didn't run the Cat5e parallel to the power wiring, did you? If yes, especially if it was tied to it, you need to separate them by at least a foot for the whole run length- preferably more.
Run a heavy extension cord to a different room, plug the system into it and see if the problem persists. If it does, you're going to need an oscilloscope to see where the spike first shows up and filter it out.
