HDMI Licensing President Responds to Microsoft HD-DVD 1080p Comments

In a recent article in this space, Microsoft’s HD DVD program manager Sage Schreiner implied that the failure of many HD DVD players to output 1080p content was due to a limitation in the HDMI standard. This is apparently incorrect. The president of HDMI Licensing, LLC – the organization that licenses the HDMI Specification – contacted us in order to set the record straight.

I think it is sad that the President must defend a technology that is obviously far ahead of the HD formats and will support resolutions that most display mfg's. "claim" to support but do not.

Someone needs to start placing some type of guidelines on adverstising because technology is becoming far beyond what the average "Joe Apex" buyer will ever understand.

Its not the HDMI faction one sees when entering a showroom full of HDTV's. It is usually someone who knows less about the product you are about to demo than he or she should. Some sales staff use the same rhetoric as Microsoft just to sell a display claiming capabilities that do not understand or do not want the customer to understand.

I guess I am saying ,"Buyer Beware".:(

Since you brought HDMI up, I wonder if you have something that explains the different versions, 1.0, 1.1, etc. I looked at the tech paper archives but must have missed it.
