I know this has been beat to death but I want to clarify one thing. I know HDMI will carry video AND audio, and DVI just video. I also understand video quality is equal for both. But here is what I want to clarify:

I kind of like the idea of running video thru the reciever for source switching convenience, so if I am using the reciever for audio and not the TV, I only need DVI out to the TV right? For just video since the reciever will output audio to the speakers? There is no further benefit to me to using HDMI?

Video quality *can* be better for HDMI (in the future). DVI can only do 8-bit video. HDMI can do 8-bit, 10-bit, or even 12-bit video.

just when I thought I had a reciver picked out.. :)

Follow up question: If the reciever doesnt upconvert to analog to HDMI, how do you watch analog sources?

I have a dish 307 reciever with antenna for locals. If I'm watching HD on satellite and switch to a local channel, how do I view it if I only have HDMI to TV?

Thanks
