I just purchased a Panasonic TH-50PX60U Plasma TV. I attempted to connect my DirecTV HD DVR (HR 10-250) to the television via an HDMI cable.
It was a disaster. The picture was distorted. The only colors that appeared were red, pink, and blue. I thought I might have a problem with the television. I then connected the DVR to the TV using component video cables and the picture was fine.
I could have just stopped there but I wanted to use the HDMI connection I had heard so many good things about. So I bought a second HDMI cable and tried again. The same thing happened...a red, pink, and blue distorted picture.
I called DirecTV. They acknowledge some problems with the HR 10-250 HDMI output but had not heard of the problem I was experiencing.
The DirecTV customer service rep proceeded to tell me that the picture performance of component video cables "was really just as good as HDMI."
Can anyone help?
