Hi all, i need help: I have a new Yamaha receiver, and the following HDMI ready equipment that i need help connecting and activating.

I have a blue ray, and have connected to the receiver HDMI1 BR/DVD SLOT,
assuming this is correct, i have a flat screen TV in HDMI3 at TV and HCMI3 in receiver.

I have a cable TV receiver box, connected to incoming cable with outgoing HCMI. Dose this get connected to the HDMI Out in the receiver? i cannot find this in the receiver manual.

Then, what should the receiver selector be set at, HDMI3 ?

All source devices, the bluray and cable box in this case, get connected to inputs of the receiver and a single HDMI cable from the HDMI output of the receiver goes to the TV. The TV input should be set to whatever HDMI input the receiver was connected to.

You can generally connect any device to any input (regardless of the label on the input selector of the receiver) because the majority of receivers allow you to 'assign' the inputs. So for example, if you connect the bluray to an HDMI input labeled 'hdmi1' and want to select the bluray by pressing the input selector labeled br/dvd' then you need to assign hdmi1 to the br/dvd input selector.

By default certain input selectors are pre-assigned so the br/dvd input may already be assigned to hdmi1 and as long as you connect the bluray to hdmi1 input, it will work. Likewise, there will already be an input selector for cable/dvr with an assignment to one of the other hdmi inputs and you can connect the cable box to that hdmi input. The manual will tell you what the default assignments are, but you are free to do it any way you want as long as you make the assignments in the receiver's setup menus.
