HDMI Cable with DVI adapter or HDMI to DVI cable

Hey everybody,

I recently won the DVI Gear contest for November (which is awesome and can't wait to see what these SHR cables can do... so excited, thank you DVI Gear!).. But i'm interested to see what you guys have to say about HDMI to DVI conversions. I plan on building a HTPC in 6 months or so (summer time) so at some point I will be using this cable to run from the DVI out on the video card to the HDMI in on the TV set I'll be purchasing after the new year. So with this in mind, I have two options:

1) Choose a HDMI to DVI cable

2) Choose a HDMI cable and buy a DVI adapter from them for 20 bucks extra.

Option 1 obviously gives me what i need and it's done with. But the draw back is that it would only be good for the HTPC and if I decided I ever wanted to use it for a plain old hd cable box with hdmi out, I'd be out of luck. Option 2 obviously costs me 20 bucks, but I get the flexibility of having a standard hdmi cable that could be used on anything, and then use the adapter to attach it to the HTPC when it's built.

So what do you all think? Which option would you all choose? Also, as far as performance goes, would one see a difference in quality with a straight HDMI to DVI conversion cable versus a HDMI cable with a DVI adapter attached?

Thanks all,
Dave
