I have a Denon DVD-3910 and my inquirey is it capable of playing back HD dvds?

No, it cannot. The upconversion players with HDMI or DVI-D outs do not support the HD-DVD format. They can only play standard DVD and upconvert to 1080i over the DVI-D or HDMI. The Toshiba HD-A1 is an HD-DVD player that upconverts standard DVD and plays HD-DVD. Also, there are some HD-DVD's that have a standard DVD layer that can be played back in any DVD player. There aren't many HD-DVD discs like this, but they are more expensive and most view them as an unnecessary way to make HD-DVD's.

No, the Denon 3910 does not play HD DVDs. For HD DVD, you need a new player and there are only a few available as HD DVD is so new.
