HD DVD all is NOT lost, for now!

Why not use the HD players for this too? Or, you don't want to put the extra hours on it?
'cause they suck at it.;)

At least my A2 does. It's too slow at start up, and while I haven't tried a great deal of CDs in it; the ones I have tried, Eagles out of Eden for one experience drop outs.

Realistically, I didn't expect the new format players to completely replace my universal player. At least not for a couple of years. Maybe, just maybe, some one will come out with a BD player that plays SACD and HD DVD.

Music sounds the same to me. Yes, I don't want to put too many hours on the A35. Just bought the first Mission Possible (the only one I like) for $10. I have to control myself. Otherwise I will end up with a bunch of useless HD dvds when the A35 dies sometimes in the future.

The dropouts through HDMI/Toslink were fixed with firmware update 2.6. I play CD's through my A2 all the time via toslink into a Sony receiver. Toshiba doesn't have the greatest DAC's. However, HDMI/Toslink puts that burden on the receiver. I play my "Best of Diana Krall" CD in my A2 all the time.

You could be right. I haven't really tried a CD since before the first update.
I'll have to try it some time.
