So I was Playing with my system last night. I was watching the first scene in beowulf awaiting for Grendal to make his grand entrance. As he blew up the door I was left wanting more. I thought, were was the big boom everyone was talking about. My sub was not getting a workout at all. I then skipped to the dragon scene and got the same feeling. I then went to the a3 settings and saw that the dynamic range control was on. I remember reading that the range control limits your your sound. Well it definitely does that. I set it to off and went back to the 1st grendal scene. Damn when grendal came through the door it made me jump... literally. My sub ( PB12-Plus/2) actually made my sofa shake.

Now I have to back and rewatch Shooter, Transformers, and The bourne series. Should be a long weekend!:)

Hah. Yes, DRC should be set to "Off" unless, well, you like that kind of thing. Happy listening! John

That's a good tip for other people. I would have thought any sort of dynamic range compression would have been off by default.

The PS3 is on by default as well. Watched August Rush on Blu ray last night, one of the first blu movies we viewed with it, and about 1/2 through remembered this post. After the movie I checked, and it was on. So we had to re-watch several scenes, Rhapsody, the organ and dueling guitars. Made a lot of difference. My A2 was set to on by default too.
