Having Your Main Speakers On The Same Area As Your Receiver

Due to room size contraints i have my front speakers on the same surface as my receiver, i am just wondering if this could damage the receiver from all the vibrations of the surface.

you should for sure put down some sort of packing foam squares or something underneath the receiver, if there is an option to isolate the speaks also , i would recommend that too.

I like your idea! Do you recommend just putting sytrofoam under each leg of the receiver or a big piece under the entire thing.

If it is speakers and receiver on the same surface with one speaker on each side of the receiver I don't think it's going to affect the receiver at all. It would be the same as setups where people have a bookshelf speaker on each side of the TV sitting on the same stand as the TV.

You could go to Lowes and buy the 1" or 2" round heavy duty felt circles and put them under the receiver feet but it really isn't necessary.

Yes i have a speaker on each side of the receiver. I personally would like to isolate them with speaker stands but i have no room what so ever. My only option is a bigger room to isolate them.

in response to your question....don't put a full block of styrofoam under the receiver - it will block air flow. Just put it under the "feet". The round felt pads mentioned are also a good idea, probably better than styrofoam which will eventually break down into a mess. The adhesive thick felt pads could go under all four corners of your speakers and under the feet of the receiver - inexpensive fix. You could do a net search for actual vibration pads for audio equipment, but you will be surprised by the amount of pure snake oil hype associated with some costing hundreds to thousands of dollars ??????

I wouldn't put anything under the speakers. These need to be as stable as possible so that the driver's movement are "true" and not the combined result of the whole speaker rocking back and forth on a foam pad. It's a bit far fetched, but if you're that concerned about the sound, then I believe that's what you should do.

Isolating the receiver's feet might be a good idea also. But I doubt it'll make much of a different, it being completely solid state.

Now the CD/DVD player is an other story. That guy should be minimally isolated. Still, the inner suspension of the driver should be able to cope with most vibrations.

I was able to cut little 2-1/2" squares out of some high density packing foam and that got rid of any vibration that my receiver was getting from the sub and the computer (hdd's and fans vibrate to high hell). Just stick one piece under each leg, that also is the best way cosmetically IMO. I think the packing foam is avail. in any color as well. thx
