This might be worth looking at. It's an all in one deal with full warranty. There are good deals on the rest of the site and they are completely reputable according to at least a few sources here at AH.
I'll vouch for that - Harman Audio is a great seller, I've bought from them several times. My rear surround JBL's were purchased from them - factory refurbished, but as good as new - and extremely fast shipping.

Anything is worth looking into, and this isn't a bad deal at all, should you decide that you simply do want to go the HTIB route.

Thanks. Also this stuff is pretty easy to re-sell when you do want to upgrade. To begin with it sounds okay and it's cheap so getting your money out is easy. I don't think you're obligated to tell people that you bought refurb at auction prices. It's simply "used" and cosmetically it's perfect.

Edit: BTW this stuff is not always around. If you're after it, get it.

HDMI and Component video are pretty much equivalent quality as far as the video signal is concerned. HDMI w/audio presents a scenario that helps reduce cable clutter that's about it.

If you were to use this Onkyo system, I would run everything via component video through the receiver, and have one component cable from that to the TV. Use digital coax or optical for the audio from each source, and make sure you have it plugged into its corresponding input that matches the video from that source. That way you can use the receiver for switching purposes too. It may create more clutter behind the console, but simplifies operation of it from the front. :)

I set everything up as stated above. My only problem is that with the dvd player, which is an Sony upscaling through HDMI, some colors run. I was watching Saving Private Ryan and some scenes where there is fire a light extended to the top of the screen. I don't have problems with the Xbox or cable. Is it a POS dvd player, or do I need to use the HDMI to get it to work correctly? EDIT: I was watching other movies and the colors are just terrible.

Just curios did you buy the system, and did you try the dvd both ways. (HDMI/conponant)
I just feel like I missed that part or something.

Sorry. Yes I got the Onkyo. Im waiting for my HDMI to come via UPS. I tried the component through the reciever and directly to the tv and the and the picture is clear but the color is just terrible-really no color at all. Almost black and white. Its a Sony DVP-NS75H. I tried adjusting the color on the tv and didn't really help

I feel better now.
Maybe try just going straight out of yellow video out or another dvd player if poss just to see if the player is faulty. But maybe one the experts on this forum will Know better. I know I've had some equiptment go south on me but I usually don't mind upgrading within reason.

Do you have the DVD player set to upscale the video? I know it will only send the upscale image through HDMI but sometimes that will affect the other outputs. It's worth a shot. I've had 2 Sony DVD players and used many others and never had one problem once set up.

Not 100% sure but it would be in the video settings for the player. Make sure that you don't have a disk in the player and check the menu settings. You more then likely would have to have turned it on so if you didn't then it's probably not the problem but worth a shot.

Thanks. I kinda feel like an idiot but I got so fed up adjusting everything on the menu and it not working that I pulled the entertainment stand away from the wall and messed with the cables. I don't know what I did, maybe wrong blue in green or green in blue, but it works fine now. Just need to get hdmi to see if this player is worth it.

Just a footnote to this discussion, Spielberg used that visual effect (yellowish light in vertical lines) during several scenes during SPR -- it is present just after they overwhelm the Germans in the bunkers above Omaha beach, and also when Capt. Miller succumbs to his wounds (amongst other instances I think but can't remember off the top of my head). I doubt that your DVD player is introducing this noise. Still, if the picture quality is that terrible despite this I think that the other posters in this thread have given you sound advice: HD-DVD players are going to be dirt cheap very very soon and in addition to their HD capability function quite well as upconverting SD-DVD players with HDMI functionality. Check out this website's recent review of the latest Toshiba player.

Thank you. Thats exactly the part I was talking about! I got the color better now and am just waiting to see for my hdmi to arrive to see if Ishould just junk this player. I have been looking at the Toshiba A3 but am waiting for it to get around $100 before I bite. Thanks again
