Has anyone here had experience with both the Rocket UFW-10/12 and the ACI Force/Titan? I am interested mainly in the sub's music performance, but I will also be using it for movies. Also, if you know of any reviews in which these subs are directly compared, links would be very helpful as well. I know in the ULW-10 review here it is compared to the force, but I imagine the UFW subs would be better performers. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Onix Rocket sub reviews

There is on older review of the UFW-10 on this site and secrets of HT does a lot of reviews on av123 products including a recent review of the UFW-12.
They have a few b-stock subs at av123.com for a great price.

I have dual ufw-12's and I was blown away at how musical they are. Although great for HT, I wouldn't say they are perfect for it as I personally desire more slam than they can deliver. To handle the low end, I use a VTF3-HO.

When I read the review on the UFW, which I already owned by then, I didn't think it did the sub and justice.

Aside from sounding great, the build quality is amazing, it is heavy, and the driver is very beefy looking. When I look at it, it shows me that quality and durability were of concern to them. I can't say the same for the HO. Cabinet design is basic and nothing to look at and the driver looks like nothing special. that doesn't mean it doesn't sound great, but the perceived quality is night and day.

I may pick an earthquake 15 up or wait for the new monster sub coming out from av123. This might just be quite an amazing sub.

hope this helps

zonomorph I am still shopping for a sub and haven't made up my mind yet. I recently pm'ed craigsub and this was both my question and his response:

Budget: $1200

Backdrop: 2600 sq ft room...three spots to potentially place it.

Needs: Has to be nice looking (WAF) and not too big...svs is out, and be good for HT and music. Im not a super technical person so I probably wouldnt be the best guy to set it up so a sub that is more forgiving in this area will help.

So Im considering a non-ported sub simply because of the flater line of sound through the spectrum and I wont have to worry about my 2 yr old putting stuff in the ports.

Im looking at the rocket ufw-12, Kef 4000 (believe I may be able to get this sub locally as a closeout), and as a ported model, the Hsu VTF-3.

Have you heard much about the kef 4000 and 5000 models? I had difficulty finding any real reviews on these models.....the personal buyer reviews I found were all positive but havent found any objective depth reviews.

What are your thoughts on these and what other subs should I be considering at this pricepoint? I really do want something that'll drive to at least 25hz with low THD and decent output.

Thx alot for your time,
Bret

Brett ... I have not heard the Kefs ... so I really cannot help there. The UFW-12 will give you a solid 25 Hz ... the VTF-3 will go deeper, but will lose out a bit on articulation. Another suggestion is the ACI Titan XL - They are gorgeous, hit below 20 Hz, and sound fantastic. I used a single Maestro in a large, 25 x 21 x 8.5 foot room. Absolutely fantastic - you might find it to be the best of both worlds.

After hearing from craig I've been giving strong consideration to the ACI Titan XL in piano black and probably will end up going that route simply because it drives lower than the ufw-12 and meets all of my criteria. However seeing the B-stock of the ufw-12 for $850 is very hard to pass up and I may reconsider.....Hope this helps!:)
