I am looking at getting a pair of B&W matrix 804 speakers. I am going to listen to them tomorrow, but any comments will be helpful. They are in great condition and $600.

If those are in mint or near mint condition, that sounds like one heck of a deal.

The 804 is largely a linear speaker; low distortion, flat frequency response on and off axis. As such, it might sound a bit 'harsh' in the treble band on many commercial recordings. The benefit is that because it is a linear speaker you can add on a $275 DSP loudspeaker management system and adjust the preferred sound signature to essentially anything that you desire. This is not possible with most speakers - so consider this neutrality a blessing even if you do not like the neutrality in naked listening form. If you are interested in what to use, and how to use it, to adjust preference to sound signature, just let me know.

So did you guys listened to the B&W Nautilus 804S or the B&W Matrix 804?

Are they the same?
It was the one marked down to $2,750 from around $3,500. I wasn't up on them then nor am I really up on them now. Maybe Greg knows. We were comparing them to some Sig 6's that were in a different room and were prettier but the ugly B&W sounded better ... I'm gonna go yell at my Infinities now. :D

It was all driven by a bunch of Mac gear too. :)

I was staring at old matrix 800's / 801's, and more recent 802S's when I managed to get Chris's new speakers... well "get" is an overstatement as I still don't "have" them.

I've listened to the 802D's at my local HiFi shop. Great speakers. Heard the CM9s there, and loved those as well (except for the lowest of registers).

And then you'd sell the pair for 2 grand to jerry love. :p
Only if 18-months in they were still unfinished; and required an extra $2k in amps to power.

But Alex is a shrewd negotiator. He will only rent me Adam.

We gotta fatten that boy up. :)
Send my some treats so that we can get that rolling. :)

"Fat boy" always reminds me of this song (about the 2:35 mark).
